It is election time in Germany this year. And as in many too well working democracies, also here politicians and organizations are worried that too many people will stay at home and do not take their right to vote.
So in a campaign to increase the number of people participating in the election, the Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB) (the umbrella organizations of the largest German trade unions) has created together with COMNLAB, a PR agency from halle, Germany, a nice piece that combines personalization technology with viral marketing.
The idea: You submit the names of some friends which you would like to remind to vote, and they receive a link to a personalized web-based mini movie that has their name in it in a very nice way.
The technology powering this is the same "magic name" technology that we know from photos since a couple of years. The effect in the video is great, and it indeed is an appealing idea worth to be spread (note the the video does not promote a special party even if the DGB web site is quite strong in their message how to support parties that address employees' rights best).
Here is a sample video (you will get the story without understanding any German), watch out for my name (Frank Piller). To customize your own movie, go here.
Good idea! Spread the word, customize your video, and -- if you are German -- vote in the elections this year!
